Agroforestry for the People

Field Day at Global Village

Last week’s Agroforestry Field Day, held at Global Village Farms in Grafton, MA, served as the kickoff event of the Woodlands Connect initiative.  Over 70 attendees attended the free, hands-on gathering of underserved forest landowners and stewards across Massachusetts. Throughout the day, participants rotated through interactive stations covering:

  • Air pruning bed construction and low-cost, low-tech nursery setup
  • A guided forest walk exploring Indigenous forest stewardship and management planning
  • Facilitated discussions on shared experiences, barriers, and agroforestry resources
  • Food forest care and maintenance

The day was supported by facilitators Davis Wang (Humble Abode Nursery), Theresa Ong (Dartmouth College Environmental Studies), Tom Ashton (Consulting Forester), Michelle Nikfarjam (PPLT/University of Vermont), and Matt Feinstein (Global Village), along with breakfast from Toasters Bakery Collective and lunch from Fatima’s Cafe. The event was made possible in collaboration with DCR MA, Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust, Regenerative Design Group, and the UVM Institute for Agroecology.
